In 3rd & 4th Class we participated in the STEPS Engineering Ireland competition this year.
We worked in groups to brainstorm a solution to a problem that we identified in our local environment.
We created concept drawings using isometric paper.
We discussed and decided on suitable materials to construct individial prototypes.
We identified strenghts and weaknesses of our individual designs.
We then developed a group prototype incorporating all the best features of the individual designs.
We constructed a group prototype in each team.
Finally we completed our project log books for submission to the STEPS judging panel..
One very interesteing experience we had was receiving a visit from a senor design engineer who works for the Murphy Group.
Maura O'Brien came to our classroom and explained about the work of an engineer.
She also discussed her own work on water treament engineering projects.
She very kindly brought us gingerbread biscuit houses, for us to construct and eat!
